Trick or Treat

Last year we added this concert to our season, and it was frightening as well as a lot of fun. The ghostly sounds of Halloween will fill the air, as the Reno Wind Symphony performs spooky themed musical selections from movies and performances, as well as jazzy and spooky selections. We will be wearing our most frightful and delightful costumes, and encourage audience members to do the same. This concert will feature music by Danny Elfman, John Williams and others. One of the musical highlights will be the popular Night on Bald Mountain by Russian composer Modeste Moussorsky.
There is a general admission charge of $10.00. All students (college, high school, middle school, etc) will be admitted FREE with their school ID card.
Veteran’s Day Salute

Please join us as we pay special tribute to the veterans of our armed forces through concert band music. Radio personality Ross Mitchell will serve as emcee for the concert. Featured selections on the program include Johann Sebastian Bach’s Little Fugue in G Minor and Claude T. Smith’s Eternal Father Strong to Save. Lincoln at Gettysburg will include a narration of the famous Gettysburg Address.
There is a general admission charge of $10.00. All students (college, high school, middle school, etc) will be admitted FREE with their school ID card.
Holiday Celebration

This concert has become a tradition with members of the Reno Wind Symphony, as we continue to enjoy playing some of our favorite holiday selections. Truly one of the highlights of this concert is the recitation of the poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by KOH Radio personality Ross Mitchell, accompanied by the Reno Wind Symphony. Ross will also serve as the vocal soloist on the Grinch that Stole Christmas. We hope to provide a musical beginning to your holiday season. This concert is free to the public thanks to our sponsors MacLean Financial Group, Heritage Bank of Nevada, and Airport Gardens.

Trumpet Extraordinary

International trumpet virtuoso Allen Vizzutti will be our featured soloist on The Rising Sun, a three–movement concerto for trumpet and band. The program will also feature works by American composers, including the Hounds of Spring by Alfred Reed, Chant and Jubilo by W. Francis McBeth, and the Washington Post March by John Philip Sousa.
Allen Vizzutti is a versatile performer and composer best-known for his jazz prowess, although his work in the classical realm is very extensive. Born in Montana, Vizzutti was turned on to the trumpet by his father. He attended the Eastman School of Music, where he earned his bachelor and master degrees in performance.

A Night at the Casino

In our first concert away from our home venue at Nightingale Concert Hall, the Reno Wind Symphony in conjunction with the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa will present A Night at the Casino in the Ballroom at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa.
The program will consist of music often heard in the casino environment, including the cirque de solei show The Beatles: Love, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club, The Blues Brothers Revue, Bond . . . James Bond, A Gershwin Tribute to Love, and a tribute to the Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra.
There is a general admission charge of $12.00.

John Williams, The Master of Movie Music

In our final concert of the season, the Reno Wind Symphony will perform some of the greatest film scores of John Williams, the Master of Movie Music.
Nominated for more than 40 Oscars, and winner of five, John Williams is one of the most famous and most acclaimed composers ever. From disaster movies of the 1970s through to the present day, Williams has written thundering themes for many of the most successful films of all time, and shows no sign of slowing down at the
age of 85. The RWS, with video accompaniment, will try to answer the question – which 10 of the more than 100 film scores he has written are the best?
